Early One Morning

Early one morning, his little face shined
he lit up her world, her heart it defined

A baby boy, all sweet and new
her joy was glorious, how it grew and grew

New territory for a mom, used to pink ribbons and all
she trips over Lego's, cars and a ball

Early one morning, a new day has begun
she arose to the task, she arose with the sun

She sang her way to the kitchen below
he came dashing in, with toy truck in tow

Slobbery kisses and fleeting hugs
their day has started, she grabs two mugs

Hot chocolate and Cheerios, a breakfast of champs
mommy and her little guy, buddies and vamps

Dashing and handsome, already at two,
dreaming of the fun things he'll say and do

Early one morning, the time it did fly
here comes her teenager, she tries not to cry

He, standing taller than her height in full
growing up so handsome, he's anything but dull

His attentions are scattered, he's got places to be
he has a whole life to live and the whole world to see

Early one morning, as she prays for his day
she catches his eye, searching for the words to say

Have a great day, be good and have fun
when you close your eyes tonight, thank the Lord for all he's done

He runs for the bus, like so many other days
she waves him off, he grins like always
He's going to be a great father and husband, a really good man
she's tickled pink, she's his number one fan

Early one morning, sipping tea on her porch
her hard work has paid off, she passes the torch
He's all grown up now, with a family of his own
her heart is full, for the pleasure it has known

He's an example of morals and strength
regardless of the struggles he's lived and the depths of its length

She smiles as she remembers the bumps and the scars
how much they sacrificed to reach for the stars

Early each morning, she thanks the good Lord, for the blessing its been
to be this boys momma, to have loved from within
